Architectural Strategy Experience

ˇ         Defined technical vision, priorities, and execution strategy for a major automotive web site.

ˇ         Established a five-year plan for applications development for a large Japanese automobile manufacturer.  The effort involved assessment of the value and coverage of the current application portfolio and the planning and design of replacement systems.

ˇ         Managed the growth of a global IT infrastructure.  Developed a three-year data center and development infrastructure technology plan based on division project directions.

Large Systems Experience

ˇ         Lead designer for a nationwide distributed bond-trading system with real time, nationwide transaction flow.  Designed and integrated front-end order capture system with the back end order match system and integrated and synchronized databases at all customer sites with master in back office.

ˇ         Chief Architect for a global firm.  Prepared vision and architectural design for the integration of all internal business systems and managed the development of the shared component framework designed to implement that integration.

ˇ         Designed and implemented an enterprise transactional ODS for a large entertainment studio.  Redesigned the data warehouse architecture for all divisions for migration to a distributed data center environment with multiple nodes of varying capacities.

ˇ         Managed the design of the Internet security perimeter for a multinational conglomerate.  The DMZ included a VPN Server, a Portal Server, and a Secure ID server.

ˇ         Designed and built an on-line knowledge management system for all of the architectural data, plans, and designs for a large corporation.

ˇ         Designed a built a research lab for on-site hands-on testing of new vendor technologies.  The lab contained an independent cooling system, a raised floor, and server racks containing a network switch and core business server technologies (e-mail, NT, Solaris, etc.).  Independent workstations were set up for technology prototyping and demonstrations.

ˇ         Practice manager for a $1 million per year consulting company division.  Responsible for the career growth of all field consultants as well as project success and new business development.  Included were selection of technology alliance partners, definition of products and services based on those technologies, development of annual marketing plans, and managing service delivery at client sites.  90%+ success rate in the achievement of strategic objectives.

Led web technology group.  Responsible for technical vision and site performance and reliability for toyota.com, lexus.com, scion.com, and others.  Managed the design and implementation of their content management system, development of the build management system, and managed all infrastructure maintenance and all internet site hardware and software support efforts. Managed the development of internal workflow systems and the development of the backbone framework.  Also created the development methodology, managed the roll-out of new development environment hardware, and provided technical oversight on all web projects.  Managed a staff of 15 including one external vendor and oversaw a $2.5 million budget.

Management Consultant on a project team established to turn around a failing next generation health care software product development project.  Mentored the architecture team on their roles and responsibilities in a software development organization and redesigned the business unit implementing the software. The turn around was successful achieving SEI CMM Level 4 status in 9 months and cutting 2 years and $3 million off the project plan while saving $27 million in lost opportunity costs.

Vice President of Software Development and Chief Architect for this start-up. Designed, prototyped, and managed the development of a nationwide distributed bond trading system.  The $2 million system provided order flow to a centralized server and synchronized transactional database instances at client sites in real-time. The 15 person development team consisted of two contract vendors and two development groups in four separate locations across the US. Collected metrics showed that the project team was 25 times more productive than industry averages.
